Province providing boost to Northern businesses

Transportation, tourism and agri-food among sectors to receive Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corp. money
The end of June brought with it a raft of funding announcements totalling millions for businesses and organizations across the North.
More than $3.7 million from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corp. is being spread among various recipients for development initiatives.
The following list highlights some recent recipients:
Sault Ste. Marie

$162,750 for Sault Lock Tours to purchase the Miss Marie — a 100-passenger vessel — and establish a tour boat business;
$2.2 million is being provided to multiple recipients for 74 job placements.

Thunder Bay

$293,500 for Countermeasures Security Solutions Inc. to increase production capacity by investing in CNC lathe, robotic welding cell and powder coating equipment that will help meet increased U.S.-based demand for the company’s automated gate assemblies and perimeter security systems;
$191,696 for Lacroix Aquaponics Inc. to operate a microfarm that will combine aquaculture and hydroponics to produce leafy specialty baby greens and rainbow trout on a year-round basis;
$138,800 for One Woman’s North Inc. to produce “Elizabeth Smellie – Canada’s Florence Nightingale,” a feature-length documentary film about the incredible life of Elizabeth Smellie; 
$50,978 for North Rock Engineering Inc. to acquire new equipment, as the firm expands into offering environmental and civil engineering services; and
$109,183 for Stop Along The Way to establish a tent, trailer and recreational vehicle campground in Schreiber.

Timmins

$399,600 for Northwind Transport to purchase more trucks and trailers to serve the forestry industry;
$116,320 for Northern Lights Fauxmagerie to buy equipment and renovate its production kitchen;
$104,455 for Alloy Insights to purchase new equipment and hire employees; and
$29,887 for Little John Enterprises to buy sharpening, welding and sorting equipment.
