MineConnect seeking companies to establish U.S. office
MineConnect is once again seeking interest from Northern Ontario mine service and supply companies that want to have a presence in Elko, Nevada.
This marks the second intake for the business incubator program, announced in 2021, which is designed to help eligible companies expand their operations outside Canada.
The three-year initiative is a joint effort of Ontario’s North Economic Development Corporation (ONEDC), FedNor, and the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation.
During the first cohort, 10 Northern Ontario companies were selected to maintain an office there, which is known as MineConnect USA.
The organization hired Sheena Hansen as its strategic development director to connect mine supply and service firms from the North to opportunities in the Nevada mining market.
This time around, 10 more companies are being sought through an open recruitment process.
Eligible companies must demonstrate experience in exporting mining products and services (including to the US) and establishing operations outside of Northern Ontario.
They must have the human and financial resources to help develop the Nevada market, and they must be ready to export.
Companies must also demonstrate an economic benefit to Northern Ontario as a result of their participation.
Successful applicants will have access to a storefront for one year, during which time they can evaluate the market, establish contacts, and use the space as a springboard to secure contracts.
MineConnect, formerly known as SAMSSA, represents a membership of 190 companies and 8,800 employees across Northern Ontario.
